CLEVELAND, Tenn.- In an effort to continue to build strong minds, careers, and communities, Cleveland State Community College (CSCC) has helped hundreds of students clear their student debt. With the help of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), the college was able to provide approximately $429,000 in student debt relief.

“Our decision to use federal funds to pay off student debt is yet another way Cleveland State is supporting our students that experienced financial difficulties during the pandemic,” stated Dr. Bill Seymour, CSCC President. “By removing this debt, they and their families will have better opportunities to prosper moving forward.”

CSCC remains committed to helping students to achieve their academic goals, and HEERF is allowing the college to better serve the students impacted by COVID-19. Approximately 427 students who have unpaid tuition and fee balances enrolled during the COVID-19 pandemic impact period will receive this pay off. The college will pay the balances owed for students who attended in spring, summer, fall, winter 2020 and spring 2021 semesters. Approximately $32,000 of the HEERF funds will be used to clear collection costs as well.

"These funds make it possible for the college to connect with students who left school without completing, and to work with them on opportunities to resume their educational careers at Cleveland State,” stated Dr. Michael Stokes, Vice President for Student Services at CSCC. “We hope that removing a barrier to re-enrollment makes it possible for students to come back to school.  Now is a great time for students to connect with us to get enrolled for Spring Semester."
