Since the pandemic, many programs and events were limited or canceled in regards to the community’s safety against COVID-19. CSCC is proud to announce that one of our most valuable programs is returning this summer. Starting June 1, The Boys and Girls Club of the Ocoee Region (BGCOR) will be back and operating at Cleveland State Community College. The goal for BGCOR is for the youth to continue life with a growth mindset continuing their education via College/University, Vocation/Trade, and or the Military. Derrick Kinsey, Chief Executive Officer for BGCOR, believes the partnership with CSCC helps youth in the community grow stronger and build successful relationships.

“BGCOR is grateful for Dr. Seymour and all the Cleveland State staff who have always supported the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Ocoee Region,” stated Derrick Kinsey. “The youth and families we serve have a greater chance of success due to these types of relationships.  Cleveland State has always looked to serve the community and be a leading organization in education, outreach, and service.  They are a program of excellence and this partnership has been praised by Boys & Girls Clubs of America.”

Since the BGCOR closing at Cleveland State last year, the staff has accommodated the community with virtual programming and meetings with the youth across 14 locations. Group ratios have been limited to one staff to up to 15 members. The staff is taking precautions to ensure safety protocols like masks being worn by all staff members, temperature checks upon arrival each day, separating age groups for contact tracing, and monitoring social distancing throughout the day.

“Cleveland State prides itself on always putting Community First,” stated Dr. Bill Seymour, CSCC President. “One of the many ways we have done that is to partner with local non-profits.  The Boys and Girls Club has been a mainstay on our campus for many years.  We are very pleased to have them back on campus this summer as we wind down the pandemic.”

Throughout the years, the Cleveland State site has held up to 100 members, however, this year the program is only taking no more than 30 youth members.  Parents who still need child care assistance this summer are encouraged to contact Wyatt Bevis, Director of Operations, at wbevis@bgcocoee.org or call 423-559-8299.
