CLEVELAND, TN - Cleveland State Community College provides the Cougar Den Food Pantry for currently enrolled students who have limited or uncertain availability of food. Publix Super Market at Mouse Creek recently donated non-perishable food items for the pantry.
The mission of the Cougar Den Food Pantry is to create a hunger-free campus for all students. Since classes began in August, over 300 students have visited the food pantry. Data shows that 31% of students have experienced food insecurity in the past 30 days and 35% are worried about running out of food before they have money to buy more.
“Food insecurities are one of the pillars of Publix Super Markets,” said Andrew Dinsmore, operator and owner of Publix on Mouse Creek. “We have a good team at our local level, and we want to show our initiative for this important cause.”
Natalia Williams, Cleveland State Director of Student Engagement & Support, said, "The Cougar Den Food Pantry serves as a vital resource for Cleveland State students in need, ensuring that none of our students go hungry. The donations from Publix are a testament to their commitment to the well-being of our students and their dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of our students as well. With their support, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Publix for their contribution and look forward to continuing a wonderful partnership with them."
The pantry, which has mostly grab-n-go food items, is available Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the Student Center on campus. For more information, contact the Office of Student Engagement and Support at (423) 473-2318.
