The following synopsis of various employee benefits applies to regular, full-time employees; regular part-time employees (benefits eligible), on a pro-rated basis equal to the percentage of their employment compared to full-time employment. Note: For complete information regarding full rules and regulations regarding each benefit, consult applicable policies and guidelines located on the TBR homepage and/or contact an institutional Human Resources Office for additional web links for information regarding insurance, retirement, and deferred compensation.

BENEFITS WHEN ELIGIBLE CONDITIONS
Employee Benefits, Eligibility, and Conditions
Annual Leave – Clerical and Support.  Begin accruing from date of employment. 

0– 5 years 7.5 hours/month 5–10 years 11.3 hours/month 10-20 years 13.2 hours/month 20 or more 15.0 hours/month 15.0 hours per month. Annual leave may not be taken before it is earned. 

 

Administrative & 12-Month Academic Begin accruing from date of employment.

15.0 hours per month. Annual leave may not be taken before it is earned.

Sick Leave Begin accruing from date of employment. Accrue 7.5 hours per month. Unused sick leave counted as creditable service for TCRS retirement only. Sick leave may not be taken before it is earned.
Holidays (13 Total)

Regular full- and part-time executive, administrative, professional, clerical and support employees

From date of employment. New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, plus 6 additional days as designated by the President and Chancellor.
Military Leave From date of employment for employees who are members of USAR or USNG. Not to exceed 15 working days in any one calendar year, plus such additional days resulting from any call to active state duty.
Civil Leave From date of employment. Regular pay for time while serving on jury duty or as a subpoenaed witness for state/federal cases. Not applicable for civil suits.
Voting Leave From date of employment. Employees who are registered voters may receive reasonable time off to vote if they request such time off before noon the day before the election. The supervisor may specify the hours during which the employee may be absent to vote, and the time off may not exceed three hours.
Bereavement Leave From date of employment. Not to exceed three regularly scheduled workdays due to death of an immediate family member (as defined by policy).
Parental Leave Employed by the state for at least twelve (12) consecutive months as full-time employees. Leave for parental purposes for a period up to four months upon request of the employee. Sick leave shall be used for a period of medical disability only; non-disability periods require use of annual leave or leave without pay.
Family and Medical Leave Must have worked at least 12 months and have worked at least 1,250 hours during the preceding 12- month period. Regular employees may take up to 12 work weeks of leave during a 12-month period for specified family and medical reasons, to provide continued health insurance coverage during the leave period and to insure employee reinstatement to the same or equivalent position following the leave period. Runs concurrently with other types of leave: sick, etc.
Leave of Absence Without Pay From date of employment. Must be approved by President
Death Benefit From date of employment. In accidental or natural death, while employed at a TBR institution, wages, unused accrued annual and sick leave, and compensatory time shall be paid to the employee’s estate or designated beneficiary.
Retirement From date of employment. All regular full-time employees of the Tennessee Board of Regents and of institutions and technology centers governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents are members of a state-
supported retirement system, subject to the eligibility provisions of T.C.A. § 8-35-101 et seq. Regular part-time employees are eligible to become members of a state-supported retirement system, but such membership is not mandatory. Regular academic, executive, administrative,
and professional employees of the Board and institutions shall have the option of becoming members of either the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS) or the Board of Regents Optional Retirement Program (ORP).
