CSCC Experiences Second Highest Enrollment in the State

Cleveland State Community College enrolled 3,180 students for the fall semester with 2,093 full time equivalent (FTE), making it the second highest enrollment among Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) community colleges next to Walter’s State Community College in Morristown.

“This increase is a direct result of the tireless dedication and commitment of our faculty and staff,” stated Dr. Ty Stone, Cleveland State President. “Our students are the reason we do what we do. We have listened to our students’ needs, and have chosen a variety of course offerings and modalities that suit these needs including on ground, online and hybrid options.”

Dr. Michael Stokes, Vice President for Student Services, said, “The fact that we were the second highest in the state is nice, but the more important thing is that our enrollment trend this year follows a lot of hard work from the staff and faculty. They are continually reaching out to students to make sure they know of all the amazing opportunities at Cleveland State and providing great support and service for them once they get here to make sure they don’t just apply, but succeed.”

According to Stokes, there were significant increases in the areas of dual enrollment, (up over 10 percent) and recent high school graduates from CSCC’s five-county service areas, (up 8 percent). In addition, enrollment of Tennessee Promise students were also up 8 percent. The increases were partly due to the additional funding from the Dual Enrollment Grant, as well as course additions at service area high schools.

The Tennessee Valley Early College (TVEC) currently has record enrollment, as well. TVEC is a partnership with local high schools that helps high school students earn associate degrees while earning their high school diploma.

The fall retention of full-time students from fall 2021 was up 4 percent from last year. In addition, enrollment of Hispanic students was up 17 percent from last year.

Cate Green, Director of Enrollment Services, stated, “I am thrilled to see such growth in our dual enrollment population and want to thank our local high schools for their partnerships. The principals, school counselors, CTE Directors, and teachers have been tremendous in showing students their options in early postsecondary opportunities. Cleveland State values the partnerships with our local high schools and community, and I personally look forward to fall enrollment every year!”
