February 18, 2019 — The results are in! The Community First Awards Committee received over 50 nominations seeking to honor individuals across nine categories. Nominations were judged based on the nominees’ extraordinary commitment of time, talent or treasure to the community. There were a total of 11 winners for the individual categories. Exciting News for CSCC Grads!

Recent graduates from Cleveland State Community College’s fall technical training programs were the first to graduate with a warranty on their degree. Cleveland State Students Participate in TISL

December 11, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College had five members of its Student Senate participate in the 49th General Assembly of the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL) held at the state Capital recently. Students served as either house members, senators, media representatives or lobbyists and were part of a total group of more than 300 students from over 40 different colleges and universities across the state. November 19, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College recently became the first community college to sign an Honor’s articulation agreement with the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK). THEC Recommends New McMinn County Higher Ed Center

Hozouri Gains I.T. Experience Working at CSCC’s CougarTech Repair Center

November 15, 2018 — A year ago, if you had asked CSCC Computer Information Technology student Nilou Hozouri about CSCC’s CougarTech Repair Center, she would not have known what it was, but now she is gaining significant experience for a future career in I.T by working there. Cleveland State's SWAP Wins Award

November 02, 2018 — Cleveland State’s Student Wildlands Adventure Program (SWAP) was nominated for and recently won the southwest section (Region 3) of the U.S. Forest Service’s Gifford Pinchot Award for Excellence in Interpretation and Conservation Education. It is now a finalist for the national award to be presented at the National Association of Interpretation’s annual conference at the end of November. CSCC to Host Story Power Workshop on Nov. 9

October 29, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College will be hosting a Story Power Workshop by the Creative Story Project on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Career Education Building on the CSCC campus. This program is designed to teach attendees how to use story and story prompts in work with Alzheimer's/dementia patients. The program also includes a brief component on aging, the elderly, and dementia. CSCC EMT Professor and Other Alumni Honored at Cleveland 100

October 15, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College has a lot of brag about after the 2018 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet of the Cleveland 100, held on the CSCC campus. Shane Ware, Assistant Professor of CSCC’s EMT program and four other CSCC alumni were honored at the banquet for their heroism in saving a baby’s life. CSCC Foundation Hosts Dinner Reception to Honor Donors

September 25, 2018 — The Cleveland State Community College Foundation hosted a dinner reception on Tuesday night at the Cleveland Country Club. CSCC Student Abhi Mistry Selected for Internship at Oak Ridge National Lab

September 21, 2018 — When Abhi Mistry first enrolled at Cleveland State, he had only been in the United States for three months and knew very little English at the time. Fast forward two years, and Mistry was the only community college student offered an internship this past summer at the Y-12 plant at Oak Ridge National Laboratories. CSCC Experiences Significant Enrollment Increase for Fall

September 10, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College enrolled 3,246 students for the fall semester with 2,192 full time equivalent (FTE), which is an 8 percent increase in headcount and a 5 percent increase in FTE from last year, according to preliminary numbers. Cleveland State Holds Third Annual Opening Convocation

September 04, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College hosted its third annual Convocation on Wednesday, August 29 in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium. CSCC’s strategic plan calls for the development of additional events that add to the sense of community and tradition. The opening Convocation fits into this purpose by bringing the campus community together to greet CSCC’s newest members, helping them to engage with the CSCC family while celebrating its mission and history. CSCC to Offer New Recording Industry Class this Fall

August 17, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College will be offering a new class this fall, RIM 2000 History of the Recording Industry. This class will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 10:20 and as the title suggests, students will study the recording industry from its beginning in the late 19th century to the modern day. CSCC One of Four Community Colleges to Receive Middle College Mechatronics Grant

August 15, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College was one of four Tennessee community colleges that received a $250,000 state grant to expand its Middle College Mechatronics Program. The grant was recently funded by a $1 million appropriation in the 2018-2019 state budget proposed by Gov. Bill Haslam and approved by the Tennessee General Assembly. CSCC to Offer Adult Technology Support Sessions

August 12, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College will be offering an Adult Learner Open House on Thursday, August 9 from 4-6 p.m. in the George L. Mathis Student Center. The open house will give adult learners the opportunity to meet some of the staff from the Student Services department on campus as well as other departments. Johnson Finds Her Calling at CSCC

July 12, 2018 — When Michael Johnson started taking classes at Cleveland State, she knew she wanted to pursue a job in the medical field, but she wasn’t sure what type of position. She also knew that she wanted to learn both the clinical and the clerical side. Fox Chosen as VP for Finance and Operations at CSCC

July 12, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College recently appointed Alisha Fox as Vice President for Finance and Operations. Prior to accepting this position, Fox served as the Interim Vice President for Finance and Operations, as well as a number of other roles at CSCC including Assistant Vice President for Finance and Operations, Interim Director of Fiscal Services, Director of Procurement, Disbursement and Contract Services and the Director of Purchasing and Contracts. Prior to accepting these positions at CSCC, she served as the General Manager for the Chattanooga State Bookstore, as well as the General Manager for the Cleveland State Bookstore. Jennifer Bledsoe Chosen as Chief of Police at CSCC

July 12, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College recently selected Jennifer Bledsoe as the Chief of Campus Police.  Prior to accepting this position, Bledsoe served as a POST Certified Police Officer for 18 years. She was a patrol officer with the University of Tennessee and was assigned to criminal investigations as a detective for over ten years. CSCC’s Dimond Named a 2018 New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar

June 08, 2018 — Nate Dimond, a student at Cleveland State Community College, has been named an inaugural 2018 New Century Workforce Pathway Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship. This new scholarship is the first of its kind to support students at associate degree-granting institutions who plan to enter the workforce upon the completion of a degree or certificate on a national scale. Sewell Finds Her Home at Alma Mater

May 30, 2018 — Growing up, Cleveland State Service-Learning Program Assistant Brooklyn Sewell never thought college was for her. Fast forward a few years and not only has she completed her associate degree, but she will graduate with her bachelor’s in December and is already making plans to complete her master’s degree, and even considering a doctorate! Sewell originally decided to pursue her realtor license because it only required three weeks of school, but said she truly enjoyed the classroom experience and even studying to pass the Real Estate License Exam. Once she obtained her license, she immediately felt like something was missing from her life. CSCC Debate Team Wins 2nd Place and Best Speaker Award in ETSU Tournament

Vital to Address Graduates at CSCC’s Spring Commencement Ceremony

April 20, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College will hold its annual spring Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 5 at 10 a.m. in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium. Greg A. Vital has been chosen as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. In January 2017, Cleveland State Community College announced the creation of Greg A. Vital Center for Natural Resources and Conservation, the college’s first named academic program. The Center supports the Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries Program and the Agriculture Program at Cleveland State and brings together students, educators and working professionals in natural resources, agriculture, industry and parks to identify and apply effective solutions to the challenges that arise at the intersection of the natural environment and human development. CSCC Women's Basketball Team Joins Downtown Cleveland Volunteer Effort

April 20, 2018 — Cleveland resident and community volunteer, Jeremy Quirk, and members of the Cleveland State Community College Women's Basketball Team joined together on Saturday, April 7th, to complete the first of a series of Downtown Cleveland volunteer clean-up efforts planned by Quirk. P-16 Summer Summit Scheduled for June 6

April 12, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College will be partnering with the Tennessee Education Technology Association (TETA) and the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) to host their annual P-16 Summer Summit on Teaching with Technology on Wednesday, June 6 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This conference is open to teachers, principals, supervisors, and all interested parties throughout the state. Torbett Benefits from CSCC's Advance Program

March 23, 2018 — Travis Torbett was happy in his position as a production supervisor at Olin Chemical, but knew that one day he’d like to pursue a management role which would mean he’d have to have a college degree. With the encouragement of his production manager, he chose to enroll in Cleveland State’s Advance Business program. CSCC to Host Conservation Day and Wild Game Dinner

March 23, 2018 — The Cleveland State Community College Wildlife Society is hosting Conservation Day following by a Wild Game Dinner on Saturday, April 7. Conservation Day will be from noon until 5 p.m. with activities and information from 20 different vendors set up in the front parking lot on the main campus. Some of the vendors include Safari Club International, Ritchie Tractor, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, United States Forestry Service, Tennessee Division of Forestry, City of Cleveland Forestry, Keep America Beautiful, Master Gardeners, Southeast Co-op, TVA, and Land Trust of Tennessee. Trail of Tears Educational Symposium Scheduled

March 19, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College and the Tennessee Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association will be hosting a Trail of Tears Educational symposium on Friday, April 13 in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center to commemorate the 180th anniversary of the Trail of Tears and the 50th anniversary of the National Park Service National Historic Trails System. Taylor Right at Home with CSCC's Honors Program

March 12, 2018 — Cleveland State student Jackson Taylor thought he had it all figured out after he finished Towns County High School in Georgia. The Georgia native planned to go to the University of Georgia (UGA) on a baseball scholarship and major in Engineering, but after hearing about CSCC, he weighed both options and decided on the smaller school in Tennessee. February 16, 2018 — CSCC will host the 14th annual Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss celebration on Saturday, March 3. Athens Center Hosts Ticket to Service

February 09, 2018 — Cleveland State Community College Athens Center is hosting its second annual Ticket to Service Volunteer Showcase at the Athens Center on Wednesday, February 14 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The purpose of this event is to connect students with service agencies in McMinn and Monroe Counties in order for them to become aware of volunteer opportunities and ways in which they may become more involved in the community. Young Americans are Coming to CSCC

February 05, 2018 — Hundreds of Cleveland area kids are preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime when they will take classes and perform with California-based , The Young Americans. This nonprofit music, dance, and performance company will make a tour stop at the Cleveland State Community College March 8-10, 2018, during its Southern Region Tour. The Young Americans are committed to inspiring the world through global music outreach and performance excellence among audiences of all ages.
