Cleveland State Hires New Faculty and Staff

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Cleveland State Community College recently held an orientation for new faculty and staff on campus.

Abigail Parker, enrollment specialist

Abigail Parker was recently hired as the enrollment specialist for CSCC. Parker is a recent graduate of East Tennessee State University (ETSU) with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. She is also a graduate of Cleveland State Community College with an associate’s in general studies.

Angela Ruiz, secretary to the Humanities Department

Angela Ruiz was hired as the secretary to the Humanities Department. Prior to being hired by CSCC, Ruiz served as the administrative assistant for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office where she was responsible for processing requisitions for purchase orders, processing invoices for payment, filing, assisting the director of finance, billing other departments for services rendered, and processing budget amendments. Ruiz received her associate’s degree from Cleveland State Community College.


Christa Mannarino, executive director of Institutional Advancement

Christa Mannarino recently accepted the position of executive director of Institutional Advancement. Prior to accepting the position at Cleveland State, Mannarino served as founder/principal of Mannarino Consulting. Over the past four years, her firm has been specializing in nonprofit leadership development and capacity building. Clients include the Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti, McKamey Animal Center, and the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. Mannarino earned her bachelor’s degree in fine art from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK) and her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC).

Christy Dale, director of business services

Christy Dale was hired as the director of business services. Dale comes to CSCC from Lee University where she served as the Federal funds accountant and the employee benefits coordinator prior to that. Some of her responsibilities included determining cash flow needs and requesting monies as necessary from the Department of Education, preparing standard and adjusting journal entries, calculating federal administrative cost allowance, annual audit preparations, and serving as backup payroll manager for faculty, staff and student intern payrolls. She has a bachelor’s degree in business from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA and is currently pursuing her M.B.A. from Lee University.

Diona Brooks, financial aid specialist

Diona Brooks was recently hired as the financial aid specialist. Brooks comes to Cleveland State from Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Athens where she served as a career services specialist. Some of her responsibilities included negotiating training agreements with companies, maintaining contacts with high school and college administrations necessary to effectively manage Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) participants, and managing an adequate case load in which clients were assisted to meet their career and educational goals. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Tennessee Wesleyan University.

Eni Major, coordinator of tutoring

Eni Major recently accepted the coordinator of tutoring position. Prior to accepting this position, Major served as a Testing Administrator for CSCC where she was responsible for conducting testing sessions and overseeing facilities in accordance with state and local school policies. She prepared and coordinated site testing programs with their central institutions and advised students how to proceed toward completing necessary testing, and set up monthly schedules of the testing center with coordination of different departments and the Athens site. She received her bachelor’s degree in education in Hungary.

Eric Harris, student success coach

Eric Harris recently accepted the position of student success coach. Prior to this position, he was the financial aid specialist for Cleveland State where he was responsible for reviewing approximately 900 scholarship applications per year and awarding scholarships to qualifying applicants. He managed various Foundation and institutional scholarship budgets totaling more than $500,000 per academic year. Harris received his associate degree from Cleveland State and later his bachelor’s in Mass Communication from ETSU.

Gregory Edwards, nursing instructor

Gregory Edwards was recently hired as a nursing instructor at CSCC. Prior to accepting this position, he served as an adjunct clinical instructor at CSCC. Edwards received his associate degree in nursing from Excelsior College in Albany, New York, his bachelor’s in nursing from Western Governor’s University and his master’s in Nursing Management and Leadership, also from Western Governor’s University.

Heather Brown, workforce development project coordinator

Heather Brown was recently hired as the as the Project Coordinator for the Workforce Development Department. Prior to accepting this position, Brown served as the WIOA adult / youth career services coordinator for the Southeast Tennessee Development District / TCAT Athens where she was responsible for enrolling, assisting and ultimately exiting both adult and youth eligible clients through the grant funded WIOA program. Brown received her associate degree in education from Cleveland State and her bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Lee University.

Holly Tkaczyk, librarian I, reference and instruction

Holly Tkaczyk was recently hired as a librarian for Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position at Cleveland State, Tkaczyk served as the library assistant at Columbia State Community College where she was responsible for teaching information literacy classes for new students and collaborating with faculty to design library instruction presentations on specialized topics. She also assisted students with research skills and navigating databases and performed other detailed library operations. Tkaczyk received her bachelor’s in English from Michigan State University and her master’s in library science from the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa.

Hope Freeman, financial aid specialist

Hope Freeman recently took a position as a financial aid specialist at Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position, she was a higher education / customer relations specialist for EdFinancial Services where she was responsible for communication with college students and their parents, as well as student loan borrowers to address daily questions, concerns, or issues regarding their student loan accounts. She received her bachelor’s degree in business from Tennessee Wesleyan College (now University).

Jacquelyn Williams, enrollment specialist

Jacquelyn Williams was recently chosen as an enrollment specialist for Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position, Williams served as a work study in the Financial Aid Department assisting students in the Enrollment Services Center, helping with application processes, FAFSA preparation and other questions. She received her associate degree from Cleveland State in psychology and is currently enrolled in Lee University.

Janlyn Underwood, student success coach

Janlyn Underwood was recently chosen as a Student Success Coach. Underwood comes to Cleveland State from Independent Consulting and Advocacy in Chattanooga where she provided consulting services to nonprofits in the areas of special education, employment for individuals with disabilities and community partnerships. She also provided transition consulting to families and young adults related to college supports, employment, soft skills and career exploration. She received her bachelor’s in psychology from UTK and a master’s in professional counseling from Argosy University.

Jen Marx, coordinator of student life

Jen Marx was recently hired as the coordinator of student life at Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position, Marx served as the Library Public Services Coordinator at Cleveland State where she managed public facing programming, communication and circulation services, which also serves the community at large. Some of her responsibilities include event planning, social media, financial and digital literacy programming and education, book club administration, basic graphic design, etc. She received a bachelor’s in marketing from Ball State University, a bachelor’s in Japanese, also from Ball State University, and is currently working on her master’s in Information Science from the University of Tennessee.

Kimberly Cull, librarian 1

Kimberly Cull was recently hired as a Librarian for CSCC. Prior to accepting this position, Cull served as a Technical Services Worker at the Lilly Library in Bloomington, IN where she was responsible for retro converting the card catalog to Indiana University’s online catalog. She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Indiana University and her master’s in library sciences.

Marcus Easley, criminal justice instructor

Marcus Easley was recently hired as a criminal justice instructor. Prior to accepting this position, Easley served as an adjunct instructor for Cleveland State where he taught all criminal justice courses including online and e-campus courses. He expanded the classroom environment to surpass the standard lecture and introduced experiences, speakers and tours to reveal the actual world of criminal justice, outside of the textbook. He received his associate degree in criminal justice from Cleveland State, his bachelor’s in criminal justice from UTC and his master’s in criminal justice, also from UTC.

Marsha Foster, student success coach

Marsha Foster was recently hired as a success coach at Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position, she served as a college and career counselor at Hamilton County High School where she worked collaboratively with teachers to introduce college and career guidance as a compliment to their instructional goals. She received her bachelor’s in English from Hamilton College, a master’s in physical education from the University of New Mexico and a master’s in guidance and counseling from University of West Georgia.

Michael Myers, transcript analyst

Michael Myers was recently hired as a transcript analyst for Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position, he served as an assistant manager for Eddie Bauer in Chattanooga. In addition, he also worked in the Maryville College Registrar’s Office where he was assisted with the bi-yearly registration process which included filing completed registration paperwork. He received his bachelor’s degree in international business from Maryville College and is currently working on his M.B.A. from Belhaven University.



Rachel Scruggs, student success coach

Rachel Scruggs was recently hired as a student success coach. Prior to accepting this position, Scruggs served as an assistant coordinator for Berean Children’s Home in Brookhaven, MS where she managed the schedules of 16 children in the home acting as the liaison between the campus director and house parents, kitchen staff and support staff regarding the children’s needs. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from William Carey University.

Richard Wade, small business specialist

Richard Wade was recently chosen as a Small Business Specialist for Cleveland State’s Small Business Development Center. Prior to accepting this position, Wade served as a commercial and consumer loan officer for SouthEast Bank in Decatur, TN where he served as primary lender for the Meigs County area. He received his bachelor’s in business management from Tennessee Wesleyan University.

Susie Fries, English instructor

Susie Fries was recently hired as an English instructor. Prior to accepting this position, she served as an adjunct instructor for Cleveland State. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UTC and her master’s in English, also from UTC.

 

Wendy Haley, math lab specialist

Wendy Haley was recently hired as the math lab specialist for Cleveland State. Prior to accepting this position, Haley served as a mathematics adjunct instructor and tutor for CSCC working one on one with students from learning support through calculus, keeping track of students’ performance. She received her bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Ferris State University.
