CLEVELAND, TN. – The Department of Service-Learning at Cleveland State Community College and GRAAB Coalition (Going Respectively Against Addictive Behaviors) will be co-sponsoring the 8th Annual “Make a Difference Now” Volunteer Expo on Wednesday, September 13 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium on Cleveland State’s campus.

“This is a terrific opportunity for our students to volunteer to apply what they are learning in the classroom to a local area of need,” stated Dr. Denise King, Vice President for Academic Affairs. “What better way to make a positive difference where it really matters—here in our home community. We hope these lessons will remain with students throughout their lives, no matter where their degree path leads them.”

The theme of this event, “Make a Difference Now,” centers on Cleveland State’s desire to give students the opportunity to become civically engaged in their community by learning more about various agencies in the surrounding areas and finding out how they can become involved. This expo allows students, faculty, and community participants to browse and interact with community agencies on an informal basis.

Sherry Holloway, Service-Learning Director, said, “The “Make A Difference Now” Volunteer Expo is a great way for the Cleveland State Community College team to demonstrate our dedication to service-learning and civic community service. We are excited for the opportunity to partner with GRAAB Coalition as we welcome area nonprofit and community focused agencies to our campus. We hope students, faculty, staff, and community visitors enjoy the event, find volunteer opportunities that align with their outreach goals, and (if needed) learn about programs and services that meet their personal and family needs.”

Agencies wishing to register as participants, or for more information about the “Make a Difference Now” Expo, contact Holloway at (423) 473-2385 or email her at sholloway@clevelandstatecc.edu. This event is open to the public so that anyone in the community can learn about agencies and their programs, as well as how to volunteer. Visitors attending the event may park anywhere on campus that is not reserved.  The Cleveland City Transit; CUATS/SERHRA will also be providing transportation to the campus during the event.  There will be approximately 60 non-profit and community focused agencies at the event for participants to talk with about resources that are available to help with personal and family needs.
