CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Scott Packett was recently chosen as the Director of Workforce Development at Cleveland State Community College.
Packett is a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College (now Tennessee Wesleyan University) where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science: Sociology and Human Services, and he is currently pursuing his Master’s of Divinity in Pastoral Studies from Southern Theological Seminary.

“Scott has excellent experience working with and providing training for business and industrial partners thoughout our service area,” stated Dr. Bill Seymour, CSCC President. “He is an outstanding addition to our Workforce Development Team.”

Prior to accepting the position as the Director of Workforce Development at CSCC, Packett served as the Workforce and Grant Coordinator for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) in Athens where he was responsible for developing and overseeing the Special Industry Training program, writing and managing grants, the development of marketing strategies, overseeing the Dual Enrollment program and supervising the College Access and Success Coordinator.

“Working at TCAT was a valuable experience for me,” stated Packett. “I was involved in workforce development in the same five-county service area that CSCC serves. I would not be sitting here in this position if I hadn’t had the opportunity at TCAT.”

In his current position, Packett will lead an expansion in the delivery of incumbent worker training for the industries that make up CSCC’s service area while supporting growth in the unique testing, assessment, boot camps and business solutions that distinguishes Cleveland State’s OneSource Workforce Development Center.

“After applying for the position, I was very excited to learn that Dr. Patty Weaver would be the Assistant Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development,” stated Packett. “Patty has a reputation for working hard and leading well, which in turn will motivate me to do the same.”

Packett continued, “I’m really looking forward to working with my team to meet the needs of the local community. Dr. Seymour has a good vision for the college, which is very encouraging. Ultimately, I’d like for CSCC to be thought of as the central location for workforce development, whether it’s for the business side, the technology side, or the OneSource side.”             In his spare time, Packett enjoys spending time with his wife, Allyssa, and their two sons, Ayden, 8 and Avery, 6. In addition, he enjoys reading, coaching his son’s soccer team and going to the Tennessee Smokies, UT football and Atlanta Braves sporting events. He also serves as the lead pastor of Idlewild Baptist Church in Athens.
