New Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration

Whether you are starting college for the first time, returning to complete or transferring from another institution, it is an exciting time!

After you have applied for admission and been accepted,  you will be ready to get on track in the multi-step Orientation Program that focuses on giving students relevant information at each stop.  The 4 steps include:

  • Step 1 - Orientation
  • Step 2 - Academic Planning, Advising and Registration
  • Step 3 - Freshman Connection
  • Step 4 – First Year Seminar Course

We believe getting relevant information at the correct time will help you be successful throughout your journey with us.

Your student type determines what Orientation Steps you must attend:

All NEW FIRST TIME FRESHMAN degree or certificate seeking students must attend all 4 steps starting with Step 1 Orientation. Students who took dual enrollment classes in high school must reapply to college and are considered New First Time Freshman.

Step 1 Orientation sessions last approximately 2 hours.

Readmit and transfer students have the option to attend Step 1 Orientation or just move on to Step 2 Academic Planning, Advising and Registration. Step 2 is the only part readmits and transfer students must attend but must complete admissions requirements prior to attending Step 2 to be eligible to register for classes.

Because getting started on the right path is so important, we require all New First-Time Freshmen to attend all 4 steps of the Orientation Process starting with Step 1 Orientation. This session will teach you how to use CougarNet, how to complete your Admissions and Financial Aid files, what resources are available in your student account, different career communities to make sure you are in the right major and more.
