What to Do

  1. Attend the Information Meeting on Thursday, October 26th at 12:30pm in S-201B
  2. Pre-Register for PHED 1360/1370 during early registration.
  3. Attend the class orientation on Thursday, November 30 at 12:30pm in S-201B
  4. Attend the snow skiing/boarding class in North Carolina January 2 - 4, 2018

Schedule & Location Information

Sunday, January 2

2 pm - Orientation. Very Important, You Must Attend.
  • French Swiss Rentals, 10821 Hwy 105 South, Banner Elk NC 28604.  Please be on time.
  • After Orientation:  Check out equipment and keep until Thursday.
  • Be sure you have:
    • Slope Ticket for Sunday Night
    • Your Schedule & Map
After 3pm - Hotel check in
    • Super 8, 2419 Hwy 105 South Boone NC 28607.

5:30 - 10 pm - Skiing/Boarding
  • Appalachian Ski Mtn. 940 Ski Mtn Rd Blowing Rock NC 28605.
      • Allow 20 minutes travel time from the hotel.
      • 5:30 pm  Arrive Appalachian Ski Mtn., ready to ski.
      • 6:15 pm  Grouping for classes.  Meet at the Black Flag, base of #3 chairlift.
      • 6:30-10:00pm Instruction & Practice time.
        BE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR INSTRUCTOR’S NAME, WHEN TO MEET AND WHERE.  LESSON TIMES AND MEETING PLACE WILL BE ASSIGNED BY YOUR INSTRUCTOR.

Monday, January 3

  • Appalachian Ski Mtn. - 9 am -  5 pm
9:00 am - Arrive Appalachian Ski Mtn., ready to ski.
  • Present photo I.D. at the French-Swiss Desk, lower level of the lodge, to get a slope ticket
9 am to 5 pm - Instruction and Practice Time.
  • Meet with your instructor at designated time and place.
  • Skills Test – Conducted at end of your afternoon class.
  • 3:30 pm - Written Exam – Snow CLoud Room

Tuesday, January 4

Ski Sugar Mountain - 9 am - 4:30 pm

  • Hotel check-out before you ski/snowboard.
  • Present your photo I.D. at the French-Swiss sign in the cafeteria to get a slope ticket.  NO SLOPE TICKETS ISSUED AFTER 11am.
  • Return equipment to French-Swiss Rentals by 5 pm.

Fees, Rules, and Important Information

IMPORTANT:  If you find that you cannot attend the program, it is YOUR responsibility to notify Karen Wyrick at 423-473-2322 (e-mail: kwyrick@clevelandstatecc.edu) or contact the French-Swiss Office (828-295-9312).

FEES ARE TO BE PAID BY CASH OR CHECK.  MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO FRENCH-SWISS
NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED FOR REGISTRATION FEES.

$100 of the fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

There is a $20.00 fee for all returned checks.

The program will be conducted regardless of weather.

The weather is very unpredictable and changes from hour to hour.  You can expect powder, hard packed snow, ice, rain, corn snow, or slush.  Try to make the best of the weather, but DO NOT expect good conditions all the time.

All skiing/snowboarding will be at your own risk.

Car pool as much as possible.  Appalachian Ski area parking fee is $1.00 per day.

VERY IMPORTANT

BRING YOUR PHOTO I.D. WITH YOU EVERY TIME YOU COME TO SKI.  YOU MUST PRESENT YOUR I.D. OR YOU CANNOT SKI.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU PRACTICE BEFORE AND AFTER YOUR CLASSES TO COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS CLASS.

IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE IN THE WRONG CLASS OR HAVE A PROBLEM, NOTIFY THE FRENCH-SWISS DESK.

SLOPE TICKETS FOR SUGAR MOUNTAIN WILL BE PICKED UP AT FRENCH-SWISS SIGN IN THE CAFETERIA AT SUGAR MOUNTAIN.

RULES OF CONDUCT

  • Noise will be held at a reasonable level in the hotel.  After 11 pm, students are asked not to socialize in the halls, balconies or parking lot. HOTEL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ENFORCE BY ANY ACTION DEEMED NECESSARY.
  • STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE AND ARE EXPECTED TO PAY THE DAMAGE.
  • Students are responsible for phone bills which must be paid before hotel check-out.
  • No grade will be issued to students with outstanding bills.
